**Just want to send some love Steve Oleksy's way. He had a whale of a game and would be one of my three stars.
**For those of you who think oilers made the wrong choise with the picks, get out of here, hall is considered to be the One of the best LW today, RNH will ATLEAST become as good as bäckstrom and yakupov has only played one season yet and would have got 30 goals and 50 points in a full season, as many as tavares got in his rookie year, while yak had like an avarage ice time of 15 min a game. Hall had last season a higher ppg than tavares has ever had! Eberle was picked with the 22nd pick and was a season ago a ppg player, gagner plAyed gr8 last season and the oilers will in the future have 2 equal lines in hall-rnh-ebs, perron-gagner-yakupov. Let yak play and dont panic, its only the beggining of the season, woth a full rooster and with dubnyk playing line last year the oilers should be fine. But if i were mactavish I would consider trading hemsky in a package for either a goalie or a d-man like yandle or for hertl :p
**Isn't yakupov still on his ELC and is still considered a SR for this season? He had a great last season but if your going to bench him, might as well send him back to sarnia or the KHL and give him some ice time to continue his development especially if it means letting his contract slide a year. No shame in doing that.
**Are dudes with long hair coming back or what? lol. I remember when I was in my early twenties I wanted to try the long hair thing, but it took to much time to deal with and looked like a girl. Loki from the Thor movies does it right, but everything always looks good in movies, then you try it in real life and shake your head lol. Oilers need a new goalie, the goalies they have now arn't working clearly.
**Calgary will take Yakupov off your hands for.... Glenncross haha maybe not. Philly is trying to get Glenny, idk for what. Calgary might not want to trade Glencross anyway, so maybe not. On the other hand though, Edmonton is a Glenncross away from making the playoffs.
**thats not true at all, OVI has scored this year 5 on 5. the problem is the lines not being matched properly which would be oates. but as long as they win... who cares
**In the past 3-4 years the Oilers have tanked in order to get the 1st overall draft pick. This year I bet all the potential 1st overall draft picks tank in order to not get picked by the Oilers.
**Edmonton has can use their 1st or 2nd draft picks in next years draft... they have enough kids in their system... and Buffalo is rebuilding... might be the perfect match...
**I could see the Oilers trying to aquire Ryan Miller, I just don't know what they'd have to give up
**No? lol Why not? We need to shed some salary and Neuvy is not going to wait and hang around hoping to be the starter. Plus Yak is a left shot so he would play LW for Oates and we need a scoring threat from the LW spot.
**Yakupov is a wildcard really, blindly trusting his skill would say he'll be the next Ovechkin after a couple of years but his attitude, mentality and performance say he'll be the next Radulov.
**It's 6 games in, the Oilers would definitely move up in the standings if they had a legitimate starter (Reimer), and some help on D (Gardiner). I know Gardiner has some defensive hiccups but he's played well under Eakins before and has proven chemistry with Schultz. Yak isn't exactly thriving under Eakins, and Carlyle isn't pleased with Gardiner so it would make sense to swap these two high potential players and see if they could thrive under a different system.
**Reimer is not worth a 1st overall pick. Would this deal have happened if it wasnt Yak, but 1st overall this upcoming season? not a chance. Edmonton is getting ripped off with this trade
**I just had to mention that while I was on a board earlier today, someone left a one liner saying that Boyd Gordon would score tonight. Good job random comment person, well played.
**The Islander are still struggling to find their way back to the Cup & they haven't won since 1983. The Oilers are much further ahead of them in having a very very good team that can beat Anyone in the League !!! A winner is never built in one day--- it takes time!!
**You're kidding right? The Islanders have John Tavares... does anyone on Oilers even come close to JT? No. See what happened to the oilers is they just got really unlucky in the draft. They picked first overall three straight years and each of those years none of those drafts had a Tavares, Malkin or Stamkos (im not even going to mention a crosby or Ovechkin because those are generational talents)... The hockey gods have a way of exacting revenge and that's what happened with the oilers. They tried to cheat the system and got nothing out of it.
**Oilers management got great picks but I don't know what kind of team they were planning to build. Obviously the pieces necessary for them to take their game to the next level aren't there and if they are, those pieces are limited and still in the early stages of development. I mean, it's like the management for a certain time period envisioned building the team a certain way, and drafted and traded and signed accordingly and acquired the staff that would best help that kind of team. But then mid-way through that the management changed in personnel or their philosophy changed and they began to build the team in a different way. And again and again changed what their goal was as to what type of team and system they would want to employ. So they end up with a team that has talented individual pieces, but the foundation of the team and it's structure are, in one word, awkward. It's almost as bad, in terms of how the team's composition works, as the 2010 Flames. Nice pieces I wouldn't mind on my team, but together as a whole they do not work (the difference being the Oilers players have exceptional talent and haven't reached their ceilings in terms of ability and production).
**Thanks. It's weird because Dubnyk (no matter how much people will deny it) kept us afloat last season. There were numerous other holes in the teams that are now seemingly patched up such as depth, slightly better Defense, faceoffs, hits, the list goes on. This year the issue is suddenly goaltending and turnovers, and it's killing us. That said, it's still early in the season, but I won't be able to say that for much longer.
**Sorry for Edmonton. Sad to see them struggle again. I really thought they will be performing this season. not sure if Eakins is the fitting coach for the Oilers. Should have kept Ralph Krueger i think. Where was Yakupov??? The lines don't match, there is no chemistry. Goalies are a problem too, i think! Hope they find a way to win again.
**I hope they do not give up on Eakins, what can he do if Dubnik and Labarbera cannot stop a beach ball this season? Nothing!! Those goalie need to at least make the first safe, and try to control the rebound as best as they can. But they get beat by routine shot. What a think about the oilers, and i like the oilers, they have a lot of talent obviously but they lack player like Patrice Bergeron. They lack people who can do it all. Hall-Eberle-RNH can play offense only. I hope gagner will be able to progress like last season. They need toughness on the top 6 forward. When the last time we saw Eberle or Hall in a scrap? and by scrap i mean pushing the opponent after whistle and all. I think i never saw Eberle, hall a little. They are to soft as it now. RNH too. Also, i was against drafting yakupov, since he is the same type of player has Ebs, Hall, RNH. Murray and Galchenyuk were better choice. Note that i hope they can get it done, i'm not a hater. I like the oilers a lot but that's what i feel about them.
**Coaching for the Oilers has been a complete mess the last 4 years. They've basically been playing with no systems and no structure during that period. Eakins is great at implementing and developing a style of play that will suit the team but he has a lot of work to do. All these young guys have great individual talent but previous coaching has really put a damper on their development at the NHL level. Be patient. It will take a little time to fix the problems.
**I don't plan on attaining either of them, but with the way our current goalies are playing, I am being forced to scout around.; I doubt Toronto would give up Reimer, or any team with two solid goalies, like Ottawa, would give up anyone either.
**Has anyone seen such a poor save percentage through 6 games in the last 20 years? I mean, seriously... I know that many of the goals scored were not the goalies' fault (due to complete defensive breakdowns)... but seriously... this happened back in the 80's at times... but then teams started focusing on defense and goaltending... this is just embarrassing...
**thats what you get when you pay young punks 6 mill a year (playoff performer, stanley cup ring holder, league elite play year after year) type salaries. They havent earned them, they havent proven anything. going thru the motions, putting the skates on, thinking everythings going to be alright. This could turn out horrible wrong in sports history if this isnt fixed. Edmonton fans will be the real losers here, they dont deserve this, no hockey fan deserves this. Home barn that sells out majority of the games, and has these type of efforts in games to look forward to. They can blame adapting to new coaches, new systems, new linemates, new gm, new this new that, its all bs, it comes down to hard work, earning your shifts,. these guys are smart enough to learn a new system and play to it after a couple practices, thats no excuse, top dollar for these players, questioning their intelligence to learn a new system shouldnt be a question. its heart and want thats not there, its non existent, and blame the goalie yes for 25 to 30 percent sure, but thats it! its the players that have most control of the game. The winning culture its just not in the room. fun fact. out of all the guys in the oilers lineup , two guys have stanley cup rings, or atleast had. Ference and Eager, but yet they waived Eager. hmm. right.
