**The Hawks have a way of bringing out the best games in their opponents. I expect to see a lot of close games this season regardless of who they play.
**I feel really sorry for Ryan Miller. The guy is a beast and performs every night to his abilities, but the team is letting him down by not scoring. It's impossible for a guy to have a .941 save %, and 2.29 GAA yet not winning a single game yet. Buffalo, wake up. That's not how a TEAM play works.
**Its gonna be a long year sabres fans. Not even because they haven't won yet, but because they look incredibly sloppy while losing. I don't know if its youth, coaching, or the combination but its painful to watch and of course, we still will
**Strangely enough, when your team's able to pull themselves out of the mud, it tends to seem all the sweeter. I'm happy to see all those very long time, hard-core Leaf fans finally enjoy some long, past due success. Toronto has been working very hard & deserves their wins.
**Although I'm not a big fan of fighting, I do see the need for it and I felt J. Scott still deserved the love and respect of the Madison Madhouse for being one of us in the recent past. Sadly I didn't see any cheers for him last night. For someone who actually spilled blood on this very ice on behalf of the Blackhawks, he deserved a better welcome than that.
**don't watch the sabres much but wow did they make the Hawks look good with puck possession. Is that normal or just an off night. Their d needs to step up or Miller will be too tired to make the Olympics- he certainly didn't have an off night. Great game Ryan
**The Sabres are 0-5-1....what you saw is normal. This team is horrible! Aside from a very few players, they are loaded with heartless, soft, wimpy players. Darcy needs to lose his job immediately. Drew Stafford is the perfect representative of this team, loaded with talent, but not the willingness to put in the work to succeed.
**From an ex-Sabres fan who hopped onto the Hawks wagon nearly 5 years ago... If Darcy was any kind of GM at all, he would've demanded a commitment from Tom Golisano/Larry Quinn after the 2006 Cup run ended, to help put together a Cup-winning team in 2007. However, either he didn't make such a demand... or they told him, "We can't make that commitment. However, we'll keep you longer, and taise your pay, if just go along with us." If the latter is the case, then Darcy has been prostituting himself all this time; it can then be said that Darcy Regier is only about Darcy Regier... not about the Sabres.
**There's only one way to inject offense into a lineup, in a hurry. You have to trade for it. There never has been, is not now and never will be a coach capable of teaching how to score goals. Hard work - without the "touch" - will not produce goals. Darcy Regier has to forget about finding out who stole his strawberries, and work the phones to bring in offense. He's got pieces on the blueline and in the net he can trade. Here's a trade he could make today: Send Jhonas Enroth and Christian Ehrhoff to the Islanders for Michael Grabner and Brock Nelson. Then, when that deal is done, he can demote or waive someone to make room for Vinny Prospal.* Add Grabner, Nelson and Prospal to the Sabres lineup, and let's see if they still have problems scoring goals. (* his age notwithstanding, he led Columbus in points just a few months ago)
**The only way Enroth is traded is if Miller gets signed long term and everyone know's that won't happen. Why would we trade our best defensemen who has proven his worth and we have locked up long term? We don't need a what, 40 year old Prospal, that contradicts the rebuild process and he has never shown in his career his worth as a mentor to younger players. Brock Nelson has 3 NHL games under his belt, we have enough players on our team playing with the same experience. Michael Grabner would be a piece you add when you already have an established core group which we do not. We need 1st and 2nd round picks right now.
**Crow may not be the best goalie in the league, but I love his attitude. Always taking responsibility for the outcomes and never making excuses or blaming other things. That alone will help him to improve. Also, all I want is for sharp to get his 200th. Is that so much to ask?
**Besides Miller and Vanek there is one more player on a solid NHL level. C. Ehrhoff has +2 after six games. Considering that he is playing around 25 minutes per game in this poor team, this number really surprises. He still can not show his real skills within the Buffalo system in combination with these teammates (like he did in San Jose and Vancouver) but at least he is solid. He is not the type of player suppose to be the defence beast. He still would be a weapon in any other team.
**Finch, you've mentioned the one Sabre who would be of interest to 29 other teams in the NHL: Christian Ehrhoff. Given his offensive ability and his price tag,* he could bring in some offensive ability for the forward lines. As I've stated above, I'd trade him and Jhonas Enroth to the Islanders for Michael Grabner and Brock Nelson, and then sign free agent Vinny Prospal.** With that trio added to the lineup, scoring goals would not be the problem it is now. (* $4 million per season)
**The Rangers used to have a line - the "GAG Line" - which produced a goal a game. Old timers will recall that trio of Vic Hadfield, Jean Ratelle and Rod Gilbert. Today, the Sabres are a team which struggles - as a team - to produce one goal a game. As Jed Clampett would say: "Pitiful."
**Whining, yeah saying that I don't believe this guy is in a position to have sympathy because of how fortunate he is, is whining. I could see if he had all this, but suffered a bad injury, or was losing someone in his family to an illness, or had real life problems that he would deserve sympathy. Having a good day at work, while everyone else you work with isn't doing there share, is called real life. Maybe someday you will understand.
**My, oh my...still yet another loss. Even Stafford is feeling guilty and scoring goals now. C'mon Ron, do some coaching and get this team in sync. You cannot get outshot by almost twice the margin for each game. The offense is clueless. They do not know how to make plays. I think your system Ron is worse than Lindy's. Maybe your assistant coach Sacco needs to leave.
**So, you seriously think that the problem in Buffalo is the coach? If a team is not scoring and cannot score, you look at the GM. Darcy Regier is the man responsible for the goal-a-game production.
**lol just won the stanley cup with nearly an identical roster, I think that's the scary part.. They haven't been outplayed yet this season, aside from the blues where the game was dead even. I'm not saying were a winning machine cause so far were not, were 3-1-1 and theres 5-0 teams out there, but they do look rly good every game, aside for our PK and Crawford's save percentage, but Crawford has looked better the last two games he played than he did the first two.
**Stats don't usually tell the whole story but they can tell important details. What's glaring for me, is that once again the Sabres let a high number of shots on net and Miller was very busy tonight (as he often is, keeping the team alive). The other telling stat...only one goal. 6 games...6 goals, and often not enough shots on net. This can't keep up all season or it's gonna be ugly
**Classic Hawks finish. Up two goals with 10-minutes to go and they started skating at half speed. When are they gonna learn the games are 60 minutes long? They looked like they were playing in the all-star game... just trying to set up flashy goals without putting out any effort. No intensity, no killer instinct. What a joke that this game was even close at the end.
**It must have been that no intensity, or killer instinct that kept them from losing in the finals last year too. A win is a win, and as lousy of a team Buffalo is right now, any hockey team can be kept in a game by a goaltender with 40 saves. Classic Hawks finish, I know it must be bad to have your team win the cup twice in four years, you are really suffering from how they finish.
**The real classic Hawks finish is to score 2 goals in 17 seconds with about 1 1/2 min. to go to win the Cup. That certainly was/is classic & will be remembered for years to come. Learn the meaning of the word classic...it's root is from the word class as in high/top class or classy.
**In an effort to expand your awareness, please realize that the Hawks have a way of bringing out the best game in their opponents. I will leave it to you to figure out why. Sad for the Sabres, but this was their best game. But also, expect many close games from all teams thus season as the Hawks have a large bulls eye on their back.
**I assume this will be deleted, but I have to vent - VERY LAME for the NHL network not to make absolutely clear the game was NOT going to be shown in certain areas. My cable guide never wavered on the fact that the game would be televised in Bloomington Normal, IL. I had some old college friends coming to stay for the evening and we were really looking forward to watching it. If I had known otherwise I would have made other arrangements. I couldn't even buy the game from NHL.com because it was being "shown in my area". Not cool at all. Oh, and - glad the Hawks won.
**Glad to see Chicago killed off two penalties, the PK% will look marginally better. I take it either Miller was that outstanding or the Sabres have a fantastic PK w/ the Hawks scoring once in eleven chances?
**This is getting ridiculous. I'm sick and tired of reading about Hodgson getting "Maintenance Days" and not participating in optional practices. He's our #1 centre and he hasn't come close to winning 50% of the draws in a SINGLE game. He lost so many crucial draws not only tonight, but every game this year. Trade Miller and Vanek now, there stock has never been higher. I feel so bad for them, a .941 save percentage and your record is 0-4-0, some kind of team in front of you. They won't resign, were not showing them any positive signs of a good future. Stafford scored a goal, seriously? Get rid of him not, this may be our only chance of getting a 7th round pick in return!
