**What the heck is going on in Vancouverland? 6 and 5 goals in consecutive games. I guess it was the players in NY that just couldn't finish. That's the Rangers equivalent of goals over 6-9 games. Not jealous...just saying it figures. Good for you folks.
**The Flames are bringing it and they are going to bring it every game. With Hartley behind the bench only good things can happen to a MUCH needed improvement on the Flames part...I think the Canucks will need a season to adjust with the Torts system..it is not an easy system to implement, but when it gets there..it's good...Tampa Bay and Rangers made the playoffs by working that system so look to Vancouver to do the same...
**I'm really glad the Nucks come home with this win in Calgary. Think it was a lucky one, but a nice comeback after down with 1:3. Flames played very well and look fast exspecially in the 2nd. Onaly one good period (3rd) by the Nucks. Defense need to step up and stop these turnovers (Edler...). Powerplay looks not very good at this moment and Kesler needs some time to get on his pre-injury level. Some other things are good. PK looks strong and secondary scoring works so far. LAck makes a good debut in thee NHL. Its still early in the season and 4 pts out of 3 games are ok...
**when you look at nhl.com's Three Stars and go to "this season" it says Mike santorelli was a first star 1 time. Does that mean that he was actually a first star in this game? Thinking maybe the calgary announcers just chose 2 calgary members in the three stars of the game since it's their home opener.
**Watched the game this morning, was on the edge of my seat all game. Costly mistakes cost us the game... but credit where credit is due, the Canucks made the most of each chance. MacDonald wasn't to blame for the result, if you ask me. Lack played an incredible game, we should've been able to get at least one more marker in the first two periods.
**Wouldn't write off the Oilers yet, but their start was a bit rusty for sure. They did a potent D-man with Nurse this year, but he won't play in the big league for another year or two, probably. Flames team has been showing a lot of potential en some flashes of excellence, but it's too little a sample to call anyone a star. Monahan has been great, Backlund is showing his potential, Baertschi is doing ok... Going to be a fun season, even if we won't win much once the season's progressing.
**The Oilers have been hurt so far by the fact that one of those #1 picks (Nugent-Hopkins) has been recovering from surgery, forcing another #1 pick (Hall) to play at a position (centre) he wasn't drafted at. I didn't pick the Oilers to make the playoffs this year, but things will get better than they have been. Having said that, the Flames deserve to be ahead of the Oilers in the standings so far.
**There are still questions in the air about the wisdom of the Oilers taking the best player available at the draft, regardless of position, instead of addressing their needs first. These questions will linger until the Oilers find their footing and string some wins together on a consistent basis.
**To be honest, I thought my Nucks would walk away with the game easy, but hell, you Flames played a LOT better than us, and for most of the game I thought for sure Flames should win. Not a lot of big names on that team, but each player fought and played hard. Great game!
**.I thought the game was fairly even with times when each team had some extended pressure. OT was all canucks....Calgary was brutal then. I don't think Calgary will make the playoffs this year....Canucks have enough talent to get there and be good if Luongo is solid and Lack can play well in his games.
**oh ok...thanks for that. That was brutal when that happened. You do have to wonder sometimes about the officials.....that may have been the worst non call I have seen for some time. Boston does seem to get away with their share of garbage. Probably why you see a lot of teams in the east make sure they are tougher and have some scrappers. Marchand is a good player but a rat from my point of view. Lucic is a beast.
**The flames have 12 goals in the first three games. In the last few years I think it took the flames 8-10 games to score that many goals. The key here is that the Flames are playing exciting hockey. Win or lose I think this is a lot better than watching a group of old guys getting older, dreaming of past glory and wishing they could of won a cup. If anyone watched the Raptors last year I think the flames are going to be quite similar.
