Flames survive, beat Jets in shootout

**Refs were not at their game this game. As much as I hate to admit, Bouma's goal should have been interference. As well as Little's misconduct? shaking his head? Why don't you just give all players misconducts. Pretty sensitive there, eh refs?

**So much talk about the "pick and roll" but nothing about the WPG goal right after that one where Smid gets crosschecked to the ice BY Wheeler before he gets hit with the puck. So neither goal should be thought of as legit. Still a great game, despite the stripes trying to ruin it yet again.

**I'm not sure why a few peg fans say the Jet "should" have won. They didn't lead even once the entire game. Even without the Bouma goal, it's a tie game. And the last second goal was the result of the Jets pushing hard in the final minute due to being down by a goal late. A tie game would've changed the complexion of the game late in the third, with both sides likely playing it close to the vest. Kind of silly to say. Maybe if they were actually up late in the game. But they weren't.

**Not trying to sound rude but watching Montoya fall over because of Hudler's deking is probably the funniest thing ever.

**That was so entertaining and exciting to watch, loved every minute of that game. I was impressed by Hudler and Baertschi and Monahan at times, but I was even more impressed by that Cammy-Stajan-Stemp line, they looked very dangerous all night long and had excellent chemistry. Also an honorable mention to kris Russell who at times looked like Erik Karlsson both in the offensive zone and transitioning the puck from his own zone, excellent pickup by the flames.... Still not a playoff team, but the effort is there.

**If you go watch the shootout over again, not the highlight but a video of the whole thing, they show the Flames reaction to Monny's shot. You get to see just how confident Hudler is in the young guy, he was already leaving the bench while Monny was heading down the ice! It's awesome to see that kind of faith.

**Well the oilers rebuild is not never ending. The were dumb to draft 3 forwards in a row when they knew that they needed build the defense. I guess their regretting drafting Yak over murray, Reilly or lindholm. The thing that is bad about calgary is that they have inconsistent forwards and after iggy and kippy left its been kind of a down mood there. Wait until they find stability in the crease then they might do better. They need a good veteren as a back up to support berra. There fine on the back end with the defensive strength and production. But they need to get a bit more fear in the lines. When you hear Cami, step and stajan on the top line, you dont really feel intimidated even if glen was there. They need to play galli or jones on the second line an move jackman down to the third in his real roll as a checker.

**The Wild have played WPG 2x this year and what I have noticed is WPG has maybe the most speed in the NHL. Multiple times I saw either Kane or Wheeler rushing up the middle or sides right past the defenseman for a scoring chance. The defenseman looked caught off guard because usually when they have a player in that position they dip the puck down but WPG has so much speed that they can rush past the defenseman and make something out of nothing.

**This Jets team impresses me more with every game. Never die attitude after a heartbreaking loss the night before and even though they lost tonight, they were in it till the end. Bryan Little has elevated his game to be a legitimate top-center and this team is showing character. Last year, it was a given they would lose the second game of a back-to-back but this year is different, which is why they'll make the playoffs this year. Felling really good about this team. They also adapted well to this tough new division.

**You don't even know heartbreaking. The Wild outplayed WPG that night, yes it was a good and close game but the Wild slightly outplayed WPG. If you want to see heartbreaking look at the Wilds first game of the year against LA where we outshot LA 29-18 and badly outplayed them but lost in a SO. Then the next night we outplayed, out shot, and out face offed(46 to 26) ANA and lost in OT with 5 seconds left. So now we are 0-0-2 even though we have badly outplayed our opponents. Then a few nights later in TOR we out shot them 37-14 and lost 4-1!! I have never seen a game like that, ever! For the first week or 2 the Wild just weren't getting puck luck but the teams we were playing were. We would outplay and out shoot badly but lose. We should be atleast 15-3-3.

**Good game by both teams. Boumas goal should not have countet. Maybe we would have seen another game, but we do not know. We had the luck we needed so desperately tonight. Berra was great again. I hope all Flames fans have seen now, that he can give us some victories! If the team in front manages to clean up the slot, he will not get more than two goals tonight! Look at the tying goal! Where was our defense? I think you have to know as a player that the Jets will chase the goal in the last seconds, so you have to be ready! But it was a good game by the Flames, i liked it very much. Good lineups, a lot of chemistry. Lets go on like this. Good game Jets! You also deserved the win tonight!

**So many games in the West with loser awarded the ludicrous extra point. The biggest reason why the junior conference looks so much stronger than the East. Yes, I know Flames are awful and Jets not much better, but still pads the conference point total.

**I wonder, Would he so BIG and STRONG holding on to 2 grown men like McGrattan , Jackman, O'Brien, Wideman, Giordano, or smid? There is no doubt Byfuglien is strong, but how strong depends on who he is holding on to.

**lol. You should probably stop being lazy and get to the gym. These are trained athletes, and he's 28. they all push around almost the same weight and have the same strength besides genetic speed and flexibility. Strength gain is progression nothing magical so don't act like this guy is the hulk lol.

**To read some the posts on here one would think that the Jets have never benefited from a bad call or missed call, or that the flames have never been on the loosing end of a blown call. come on folks give your heads a shake, I have never watched a hockey game where the officials caught every infraction, or made the correct calls 100% of the time. As the my point of my previous post, on the goal in question. Winnipeg could have taken the risk, and challenged it.

**The other call fans had an issue with was Little given a misconduct. Little said he just shook his head at the ref the wrong way and Ladd also confirmed that it did not deserve a misconduct, and was dissapointed that they lost one of their top shooters going into OT or shoutout. May or may not have been the difference but Little won it for us in the shootout last time and he is our top goal scorer. I'm obviously biased but to me I like the refs to put their whistles away to some degree when nearing overtime territory (or in OT) - this hockey equivalent of a technical foul seems like the official was teaching Little a lesson in humility, somewhat petty and most importantly it was bad timing.

**If that was the only reason, then it was wrong, BUT what the Jets players have to say about it, may or may not, be the whole story. Wouldn't a League review of the situation be nice though. It would be a shame if the Refs could make deliberate possible outcome changing calls because the don't like a players aftershave.

**Yes a league review would be great, and a public one - the fans would feel better about the league taking steps towards fairness. I'll admit that last year was much worse than this year so far but I'm not sure if that's because the league privately made some improvements or some other factor.

**The refs in this game were horrendous, flames played a solid game to be fair but the jets should have won, the interference on Byfuglien and the misconduct on little. Ridiculous, Worst reffing I've seen all year. I hate it when the refs decide the outcome of a game.

**I've always seen the Jets as a never-say-die team and tying up with 5 - 6 seconds left was an example of that (of course, from a Flames perspective it was awful that we let it happen). I honestly thought Berra would be completely at sea during his very first shootout but he proved me wrong and was very strong. Go Jets and Go Flames!

**Funny how Torts wants replays now, I'll bet he didn't want replays in game 6 of the 2004 Stanley cup play offs. Just for the record though, I would like to have replays, or coaches challenges in hockey. 1st challenge if you loose it you loose your time out, 2nd challenge if you loose it a 2 min delay of game, if you have used your time out and loose it, again its a 2 min delay of game.

**Refs who make bad calls should have to stand in front of the net and let Phaneuf take like 10 slapshots at them. It might scare the offending official into paying closer attention in future games, but more importantly - the chances of them getting hit and injured are slim to none.

**Wow always thought jets fans are true hockey fans and may demonstrate some class... I guess not. Bad officiated games happen all the time to every team, you have to play through it. Jets played a strong game and made a huge amount of shots attempts, maybe if a few more went in you guys won't be saying anything right now

**Little says it was a head shake. Seriously, if you think that the guy who got the misconduct's word is the gospel, you need to give your own head a shake!

**Yeah, what I'm thinking happened was probably the whole bench was chirping, the ref turns around and sees Little shaking his head and rather than sorting out who says what, books him. They were probably warned.

**Brutal game by everyone on the ice, Jets, Flames, Refs, Only 1 goal per side were the result of anything other than missed checks, bad passing, sloppy goaltending, bad deflections. Overall a crappy game by two teams that need to get it together. At least the Flames can look forward to a high draft pick cuz they won't meet too many teams that played as poorly as the jets did. Ditto for the jets if they play like that often.
