E. Staal, Ward lead Hurricanes past Senators
**Just realized that this is the first Carolina victory by more than 1 goal.**Any word on Borowiecki? He looked pretty woozy going off, but the Sens site didn't mention the "C" word, just neck stiffness.
**Hoping nothing more than just a temporary dizzy moment. He's one of the only defensemen actually playing for the Sens every game. Would be a horrible loss.
**Canes seem to always need their backs against the wall to compete. Leadership needed....glad to see Malholtra given the sweater A by Muller.
**I don't think people realize how brutal of an opening schedule the Canes have had. This is literally the first mediocre team that the Canes have played. To even say that they are close to playoff contention at this point is a feat in itself.
**Well, there were those two games against the Flyers, but they have had the Canes' number for the last several years. But 1/4 of the games the Canes have played so far have been against one of the four conference finalists from last year. Then add in 2 with Detroit, 2 with Minnesota, 2 with Colorado, 1 with Anaheim, 1 with St. Louis, 1 with Washington, 1 with NYR, 1 with Phoneix, and 2 with the Islanders... there are no "easy outs" in the NHL, but the Hurricanes have been playing the top half of the league since opening night.
**Thanks a lot Sens now the Canes got 2 points from that game!!!!! Nah I am JK but I am very surprised at how loose Ottawa is defensively and while the goalies have been pretty good they are not as good as last season. How much of that is a result of poor team defense I don't know. They need to tighten it up in their own end and give up less shots and grade A chances against.
**Alfie was right it looks like. This team isn't ready yet to compete and I think one of the big factors is the fact were to slow on the ice and its causing all these penalties cause we cant keep up. Watch even last year or the year before and we constantly lost to teams with speed and high offense. We also have this budget thanks to our owner that's just insane. Even if we won the team would probably have to be broken up right after. The Sens have made the playoffs a lot, but this year we got to get above Boston, Redwings, Surprising Tampa, Montreal and the Leafs who are all playing well. Unless we go on a huge winning streak and those teams who are ahead of us find a spiral down it wont happen.
**Playing hard isn't the problem, you can beat a stick against a wall all day and it wont do jack but break sooner or later lol. The guys have no flow out there at all. Havn't you noticed there passes are weak and half the time they don't even know who should go after the puck lol. There also to slow and cant keep up.
**What is up with Sens defense. That Lindholm goal looked just like Timmonen's goal against Lehner earlier week...just skate on through from the left wing in front of the crease and bury it upstairs...ridiculous
**Whats up with the Islanders in dead last? Worry about your own team, as I expected more from the Islanders as well.
**Seriously what's with hating the Sens? Also as true as the team was a letdown, you have to admit if it wasn't for Ward, the game could have been a lot closer.
**Ward's been back for 3 games now and this is Carolina's first win since then. Peters actually has more wins, and Khudobin has only one fewer -- despite playing in only 3 games all year. Ward's an important piece of the machine, but he's only one piece.
**Goalies are always relied on. Ward just happens to be a big name and a long term player with us. Peters was finally holding his own before Ward came back and lost two in a row before the win against Sens. Khudobin was doing work before his injury as well. It's just another piece to the puzzle, Ward is just more established. All three can handle the job.
**The season is still pretty early for Ottawa, but they have to get things clicking if they want to be even considered good. Lots of hockey to be played still.
**I think the Canes are closer to making the playoffs than the rebuilding Sabres and Flames. They are tied for 9th with the Devils and only 1 point behind the Rangers for 8th. It's still early in the season but don't count out the Canes.
**quebec #1.....but nhl need more west team....kansas city is logical...even with the failed franchise...i thinks hockey would works there now....also seattle....they will gets residual canadien hockey fans there.....las vegas would be cool too....and probably do well there with all the norterners vacationing there
**vegas would be cool indeed... i just dont see the sens surviving for more than 4-5 years theyve already dropped lots in attendance and the team is at the bottom of the atlantic... theyre also the only canadian team that doesnt sell out.
**Surprised to hear a Pens fan talk about another franchises relocation prospects. You guys have had 9 lives when it comes to saying in Pittsburgh. Sens have a billionaire owner that loves them ..... they are not going anywhere
**Give it a couple of years, after Crosby retires due to some injury all the bandwagoning Pens fans will just disappear and it'll be a repetition of '98, without Lemieux saving them this time around.
**Would like to point out that Cowens 'elbow' on Datsuk was thoroughly reviewed and saw no intent and that it was inadvertent and as Wing's Zetterberg took pains to point out "there was a combined eight eyes [officials] out there that didn't see it". Could be that Shanahan and the department of player safety AND all the on ice officials are wrong of course, right?
**Maybe Carolina was the only team to offer him a PTO? From where I sit, it doesn't really matter why he came here, he's kicking butts and taking names and seems to be having a lot of fun doing it.
**He's too good not to be on an NHL team. Solid teammate and a great face off guy that can skate with good grit.
**He's been out for most of the season with a concussion, and may still be having lingering post-concussion symptoms. But management did so much overhaul work on the D over the off season, they're in the fortunate position of letting him come back on his own timetable.
**I suspect that was a case of throwing it on net and something good happened. But he picked a good time to do it. He had Tlusty going to the top of the crease if there was a rebound, and a shot on goal is never a bad play.
**So whats up with Tuomo Ruutu? He's been fumbling a dozen of games and suddenly he's like the best finnish bouncer again. Hope he keeps up the mood, I'd love to see him next to Mikko Koivu in Sochi and if 'Canes don't make the playoffs, next to Barkov in Belarus for the WC.
