Blues send message to Avalanche with big win
**"Everybody has bad games", yes, but the trick is to avoid having them in key moments in big games. The Blues pounced on every blunder the Avs made and a few that they didn't. Offensively, I think we had an ok game, but when BOTH of our goaltenders and half our D decide to call in, well... you get a 7-3 result. Well done STL for being ready. Hopefully next time we can make it a real game :)**Fantastic game! The Blues really showed up to this test and matched the energy the Avs were sure to have. The Blues had a few issues in the game but this was really a statement win for them. I think Giguere was taken out too early. The first few Blues' goals were really great and not indicative of poor goaltending. What impressed me was that even when the Avs were down 5-1, they were still playing the game was tied. That's the sign of a great team, they don't go away. I see every game between these two clubs being great this season, and possibly a new rivalry? Great game by both teams, and as always, Let's Go Blues!
**Wasn't expecting a win in this game and definitely did not get one. Too many guys sitting back and watching the big blues move around with the puck in the offensive zone. Watched a few blues skate out in front from behind the net without being touched. Don't think that their season is ended off of 2 losses, but they better use it as a wake-up call to play 3 FULL periods of speed + attack.
**I'm glad the Avs have a played real upper-level team and now they know what not to do. Don't start denouncing them yet-- it was just one gam!. We have to wait and see how they recover. GG Blues!
**Very true...I chalked it up to a "night off" for the Avs. Certainly don't expect this same type of play the next time around. If it does happen...then it appears the Blues are much better than people have thought, or the Blues have simply figured out the Avs altogether.
**I wouldn't say it was a night off for the Avs. Even when the Blues exploded in the second period, the Avs weren't falling apart, they were still playing like it was a tie game. I firmly believe these are the two most promising contenders out of the West.
**I don't think it was a night off in terms effort, just structure. they are young, and it showed. i don't think that this is in any way indicative of the team the avalanche have.
**Remember when the Avs wiped the floor with the Ducks in the first game of the season? Look at the Ducks now? Even great teams get their backsides handed to them now and again. One loss does not prove anything. Stop being a hater. If you followed the team and watched them on the ice, you will notice that there is a night and day difference between their play under Sacco and the way they are playing this year. I am quite unhappy with this loss, but far from worried about my team.
**Sure..we have some work to do and maybe one ore two trades have to be done...but who expected the Avs there where they are so far...all thought we would be a bottemfeeder for another year... AND WE WILL BOUNCE BACK...you will see!!! Go AVS!!!!!!!!!!!
**tough loss happen all the times, the rangers got blown out twice against the sharks and ducks look at them now, every team looses game like this through the season. means nothing really. Avs are definitely making noise this season and it's well deserved.
**that's how it works, brodeur has a shutout this way too, he was on the ice for the 1st two goals of his team then got replaced by clemensen who maintained the shutout. the goaltender to be on the ice when winning goals is scored is getting the win or loss if scored against him regardless of how long he is playing.
**Whoever thinks Duchene got pummelled by Sobotka needs to watch it again closely. Duchene didn't have a mark on him and got a few in on him as well and then lost his balance. Whoever said he practices mma is kidding themselves or if he is he might want to give it up
**If you don't think Sobotka didn't beat down Duchene in that fight then you need to watch it again. Yes Duchene slipped but that probably saved Duchene from getting hurt. Sobotka is one tough player that gets little respect because of his size. Duchene needs to stick with scoring and leave fighting to someone who can fight.
**Why are we arguing about this? Duchene and Vladdy have a mutual respect for one another. Guarantee Duchene asked him to go to spark his team, and the only thing that was said afterwards was "nice job" from both of them. You all have more hard feelings over it than they do.
**This was such a great turnout for the Blues! I've loved Roy all my hockey life and I wish him all the best and even the Jack Adams BUT ,when its MY BLUES, Sorry Roy, this girl is NOT on your side loll So happy also that some of our guys who have been struggling like Berglund and Stewart also had an impact in this game. Wasnt Halak's best game(although he made 3 amazing saves) but he has stolen many for the team and the guys didnt need him to be at his best tonight thankfully :) And what can you cay about our 1st line. The BEST in the NHL for sure. People look at the standings and we see a couple teams ahead of the Blues but they all have played between 1-5 games MORE ! Thats a LOT of possible points! -Extatic Blues fan :D
**Seen every Blues game and every Avalanche game this year, and the Blues are no doubt the better team. I don’t think the margin between the two is as great as it seemed in tonight’s game, but STL has every reason to be optimistic about their chances this season. As an Avs fan, I can’t remember a game that was harder to watch than tonight’s. The Blues absolutely dominated every aspect of that game.
**you are an intelligent fan.... the blues have spent years getting here, i have suffered every pain during this period so ... it does not come easily. The AVs are awesome and are flying high but likely will have to continue to build the team for a few more years - they are young and fast and on the right track.... i expect a bounce back game in CO before TG
**Lappy has redeemed himself since his suspension. I was very leery of having him back in the mix, and at times when the goal production was down I wished Cracknell were in there (easily the most promising player who is NOT playing I can think of), but the Roy line with Lappy and Reaves has really been generating offense and chances of late, and Lapierre has mostly managed to stay out of the penalty box.
**Hate to admit it too, but he's been much better since returning. I hope maybe, just maybe, it opened his eyes a little bit. Will still remain cautious though.
**It is far too early to make that determination now. At this point there is no guarantee that the Blues will make the playoffs. There are no guarantees over any post season progress for anyone yet. Except maybe Philadelphia and Buffalo they may have lost enough in the first month and a half to have made it nearly impossible to make the playoffs.
**The former: you'll notice it was fairly clean up to the 2d period, when the Blues ran away with it. That said, I do see a great rivalry in the making. I'm not sure we'll ever see anything to rival the Wings-Avs rivalry of the 90s though. That was both talent and blood on a level we may never see again. Lemieux-Draper. Roy-Osgood. Wow. That first game at the Joe following the Lemieux hit. Woah.
**Not sure what game you watched. Stewart was showboating, Bordy came in to correct him, refs gave him 10 when Reaves did the exact same thing to McLeod before their fight. McLeod never got an instigator, Reaves was back peddling goading him in. Sobotka got a shove after running at Duchene, dropped his gloves before Duchene was even close to ready and started throwing before Duchene had his gloves off. Text book instigation.
**Not sure what you're seeing dude. Sobotka had both gloves off...not to mention Duchene wanted to fight as well. I was at the game and did see Bordeleau get two misconducts and McLeod get one trying to instigate fights though.
