Johansen, Blue Jackets rout Maple Leafs
**What is up with all of the Leafs hate tonight? One bad game means that their whole season will be terrible? I've seen people saying the the Leafs are the laughingstock of the NHL after one game and that the Leafs would be relocated. You can't judge the entire Leafs' future based on a single game, or based on past season when they didn't make the playoff with a completely different squad. All of these other "fans" show up on a 6-0 blowout just to trash a team that was unsuccessful in one game are not fans at all. Once again, congrats to the Jackets and go Leafs go!**This outcome was thoroughly well deserved. You can't go into every single game back on your heels waiting for the opponents to make a mistake and then attack. This team reminds me of the Washington Capitals from a couple of years ago under Bruce Boudreau. Everyone just going for a casual skate, no real purpose on the ice. They need to change this casual mentality and actually out work their opponents for once. Not even win a game, just out work the opponent for at the very least 1 period.
**I really dont understand why Leafs let Komarov go.. He was third in hits last year(in NHL if I recall) & during lockout he played in KHL for Dynamo Moscow in first line with Ovie & Backstrom :) And he is fan favourite there! Not to mention that they won KHL championship year before with him in first line & this year they lead league and he is their top man in points.. Makes me wonder why he wasn´t worth 1,5 million?!
**I respect your answer bro!! But as a fellow Finn I´we read about this a lot in media here and he really wants to play in the NHL.. He has been our captain this year in EHT (European hockey tournament) and is definately playing at Olympics. Reason he came back to KHL was really about salary cap of Leafs -and the Leafs had their eye on guys like Clarkson :( What it comes to salaries in KHL, SKA petersbourgh is paying 10,5 mil for Kovalchuk & they have cap hit at more than 50 mil...
**khadri back to his old tricks hitting from behind then slashes the player and not dropping his gloves, then clarkson trying to fight khadris battle. Good for the Columbus guy for KOing khadri with that superman punch, sweet justice
**Coaches and players will take him in a heart beat kid. Clarkson fighting someone s battles. lol I remember iginla taking a soft hit and Lucic has to stick up for him, welcome to the new N.H.L, nobody can take a hit anymore. That Phaneuf hit last night was one of the best clean hits all year and he still got a penalty for it ! Try watching hockey 10 - 20 yra ago .
**People who are blaming Reimer shud shut up!! The record we have is because of our goalies! You cant just blame 2 out of 25 players on the roster everytime! you win as a team and lose as a team! So stop blaming Reimer and Bernier for not being consistent, his teammates have to support him to!
**Hopefully this heavy loss will galvanise the players to start strong against the Pens rather win against divisional rivals Pens than Columbus tho if we play them like we did against the BJs cud b a double digit loss. :-( Just heard Lupul is out for 3 games thats a big loss on this tough road trip.
**What was up with the Leafs, wow you guys did not come to play at all. So many poor pinches leading to odd man rushes! I'm just not a fan of the Leafs D personally...they should look at making a move for someone on the blueline. This one is not on Reimer at all
**I don't understand why Carlyle kept putting the fourth line on the ice. He did it after the third AND fourth goals, and they did absolutely nothing. Didn't try and draw penalties, just skated around and continued to give the puck up. If you're trying to create energy, at least put some guys on the ice who are capable of doing so.
**I think he was probably fed up with the top 6's ineffectiveness & lack of energy but I see & agree with your point, just an overall poor effort all around from the Leafs. Nobody except for Kessel even looked dangerous to me
**Living in Eastern Ontario and watching enough leaf games it is my oppion that the leafs need a coaching staff that the players buy in-to the game plan night after night!!! There is the talent there but it seems that theres no TEAM work system in place as in 1 night defence is on ,no offence ,or in reverse!! Not to DIS the blue jackets but there is no way with the talent that the leafs have they should lose a home game to the Jacket and espicially in a 6-0 rout
**Unfortunately we're going to have to waste a couple of seasons to figure this one out. Being out coached almost every night is a sure sign.
**Im gonna just come right out and say it, hate all you want, but what a JOKE! once again there ability to break out is the worst i have ever seen. How is it that a team with no names (in general, not pointing at CBJ) can make fast short breakouts and we can hardly get past our own blue line? I honestly think that fingers at some point, need to be pointed at the coaching bc hes the one whos teaching the drills. Yes I like Randy and hes been my fav coach in a long time but you cannot honestly think its going to work coaching these guys to make 100 foot passes to nobody, never having 2 guys chasing the puck FULL SPEED, hardly anyone playing the cycle while there a battle going on, and constantly having that 1 player battle for the puck against 3 deffenders only to watch the leafs wingers slowly make their way in the zone, giving other teams enough time to make short passes and bl.ow by them anyways. Last night was just a pi.ss off. If i were Randy id either be questioning my own drills being taught and if not that id be kic.king some of my players a.ss for these performances. and people.. you cannot tell me its just one game bc its been happening 80% of the season and the only reason we are at the record were at is our goalies. Something has GOT TO CHANGE
**Hope this is a wake up call. Lately theyve been sloppy and very unheartly. Hopefully the Leafs turn their GAME around, not their season (that would be bad). Also the famous quote: "Offense wins games, Defense wins championships" I think we might need to a lot of work offensively for a few games, get the scoring going again. Again, good game by CBJ, and for Leafs, big no-no.
**After Reimer stopped 50 shots on the weekend a poster asked why he isn't in the running for an Olympic spot. It's called consistancy. Don't get me wrong, he's a good young goalie but as history shows, the Leafs always over hype their goalies. Gustavsson was supposed to be the next Sawchuck, Scrivens, now with LA with a 6-1-3 record and .947 and 1.44GAA. Justin Pogge, now in the Swedish League...etc etc.
**T me the leafs always start out strong for the first month and a half but then they just start playing average and that could coast them a playoff spot. But I know it early in the year but that is what could happen. Another thing is that a lot of the players are scared of Carlyle because if they do something wrong there scared that he is going to be mad at them. Perfect example Jake Gardner he would be great but it is Carlyle that he is scared of.
**Looks like the way the leafs have been depending on their goaltender finally caught up to them. Hopefully this serves as a wake up call for them. Their offense needs to get back on track and fast. They can't keep depending on their goaltender like that. They need to start shooting the puck more and scoring more, or else they will not be able to keep their pace up for 82 games and the playoffs as well, should they make it. I feel sorry for Reimer. On the other hand, kudos to Columbus. They've had something to prove ever since they lost 7-0 to Edmonton, and they came out strong. Maybe now they will begin the tear that saw them almost make it to the playoffs last season, as they had an almost identical record 24 games into the season last year. I'm routing for you guys, I just wish this win didn't come against the leafs! I think this is just one game, a one off, and will not happen again. Hope Carlyle gives their heads a shake and they play better tomorrow. Bernier will be in net tomorrow, but as I said, I feel bad for Reimer.
**The Leafs totally deserved this game. I'm sick and tired of watching game after game of lackluster performance from this team! They started the season strong, but now it seems like they want to see how little effort they can put out and still steal a win. Remember when everyone was scared of their speed? It looks like Raymond and occasionally Kessel are the only ones who skate out there. And these "hero" passes through the neutral zone that don't have a prayer of making it though! Over and over again! You can only let 35+ shots per night at your goalie before you eventually pay for it. And look at the level of support in the attacking zone! Most of the time when a Leaf is getting pressured, there are no teammates available to receive a pass. They're all standing out in the open, hoping that a pass might squeak through. Get into the scrum and give your teammate a chance! Are you new at this?! Makes me sick. I hate being a Leaf fan sometimes.
**18 shots on goal, what a joke. This has been pretty much 80% of games thus far, offence is streaky and they depend on fantastic goaltending to bail them out
