Red Wings snap two slumps by beating Hurricanes
**Took Holland some time, but he has slowly been clearing cap space to keep him. He has also shown he will waive players if needed. And I can guarantee you it won't be Nyquist getting waived**Um, yeah they will keep him. If he was in danger, they would have sent him back down. Obviously Holland would not risk the chance of losing him on waivers, so they talked, and they considered the options. They only kept up Nyquist because they will have other moves to make to keep them cap-compliant.
**Good to see the Wheel begin to role again. Datsyuk was Datsyuk again, simply amazing. Clearly is a pest for other teams that is his role, he is a worker bee. Abdelkader is having a tough go of things as of late. Missed DeKeyser this game. I think if we got rid of Samuelson, and Tootoo would be our best bet right now to give us room for Nyquist who should have made the roster this year. Our biggest problem right now is defense, a lot fo teams are getting behind our D. Houdini, Hank, Helms (possibly, Bert or Nyguist) Alfie, Franzen, Weiss Helms, Clearly, Abdelkader Bert, Miller, Anderson Until things pick up again, but our defense needs a little tweeking.
**If Datsyuk can't make Cleary look good nobody can. I think babs put him up with Dats as a test, and needless to say he failed. What are Holland's options for keeping Nyquist up and getting rid of a few (2~3) boat anchors?
**Who in their right mind would want Quincey (or Cleary) other than out of touch Holland. A No.1 for this roster spot waister. Holland should have retired and let Nill take over and I thought Holland said when Lidstrom retired he would also. Liar, Liar pants on fire. Must have been on fire when he made that Quincy trade.
**I'd like to see the coach put the stalls on the same line. They did that a few weeks ago....I'm not sure if they were on the same line, or just on the ice at the same time....but one Stall made a heck of a pass to the other stall which resulted in a goal. I'd like to see if they would click. It's something I would try at least.
**Nyquist is only a point behind Cleary so far this season. In 21 less games. Cleary is getting payed 1,750,000 Nyquist is getting payed 950,000. Cleary is 34 Nyquist is 24. I was iffy about the Cleary signing because it was taking a spot from nyquist, now i look at it and realize how bad the signing really was. Cleary should have been in Philly. Glad it was only a one year deal.
**he also had an offer from the pens as well. crosby called him himself to make a pitch. but yes glad its only a year. i wouldn't feel bad if they waived him. its great that he wanted to come back and help the young guys adapt but if he can't be leader on the ice there really isn't any point of keeping him since he's holding the team back.
**I would be happy with him on the 4th line. He is reliable, doesn't get into too much trouble and can fill in when needed. But no way he should be taking Gus's minutes.
**Joseph, More than Ruuto need to be with new teams. And yes we are losing all the puck battles. E.Stall is the worst on the team when it comes to hustle. He and his brother are straight line players, straight up & down the ice. No creativity whatso ever. The ease at which other teams enter our zone is frustrating to watch. And why in the hell did J.Peter's get the start last night? Carolina has a lot of holes, at some point with the roster they have, a long look at the coaches is in order. E.Stall should not be Carolinas captain, he just aint getting it done.
**you are spot on with teams just coming in to our zone. It seems like we can't hardly enter our opponents zone unless we dump the puck in. Ryan Murphy is such a good skater he could probably actually play forward too....lol. I saw him skate into the zone a few times last night. I guess only time will tell what transpires with the hurricanes season.
**To me it looks like every team we play are faster than us. We can be 5 feet away from the puck and the other 10 feet away and they will beat us too it. The canes need to practice passing, powerplay, and just over all shooting. The season is still young but we can't afford to fall behind in the new division. I would look at some trades....maybe Ruuto? That's just me
**Very good point. I feel like something will happen though if things don't turn around. Lol, I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Rutherford would hire Peter Laviolette again...lol...just kidding
**The reasons he was sent down coming out of camp was because of the glut of forwards, the salary cap and because if he played two more NHL games, he would have to go through waivers to go back down. Now that number is down to one. So if Nyquist plays one more NHL game he has to go through waivers before he can be sent down. I see a trade coming from the Wings. Who will it be?
**Well... at least Carolina figured out a way to score more than 2 goals in a game. Seems they just need to spend more time on the PK. That's 3 SHG in ... what, the last 3 games? With nothing out of the PP. I feel like I've stepped through a time slip into last season.
**well every team had a chance to pick up tootoo and eaves and didnt, so no one is guna suddenly trade for them, and i doubt if no one wanted those two they dont need a player like miller either. i like franzen, dont want to trade him tho, he is cheap now compared to the contracts players have been signing the last couple years
**Hurricanes need a major change in leadership. E Staal has to agree to step down. Call this a rebuilding year, because additional tickets will be sold to watch this team.
**For this game the box score says Cleary was even, Bert was -2, Pav was -3, Tatar was -3. On each of the two Carolina goals in the 2nd period the Wings lost possession of the puck in the Carolina zone and the Hurricanes began to skate into the WIngs zone. Right at that time. for both goals, Cleary decides to very slowly skate to the bench for a change leaving bert and pav and his defense teamates outnumbered and on the defensive. Both times Tatar just gets on the ice to replace Cleary and Carolina scores. On each goal Tatar, Bert, Pav, the defensemen all get a -1. Cleary remains even.
**Okay, I'll admit that's kind of bad. Well obviously bad. But it might not be him. The coaching staff might not be confident in his ability to defend top-line opponents and want to see Tatar try. They might tell him to try and get a quick change in when defense is about to happen. Maybe not his fault but still a silly move by someone in the organization.
**He'll probably go down when Alfie comes back from injury, we're not salary cap compliant with him on our team, and that is why he got sent down in the first place, all our other good players are on one-way contracts, while he doesn't have to clear waivers to get sent down. If we want to keep all our players, sadly Nyquist has to stay in minors.
**if he pays one more game he will need to clear waivers to be sent back down, and everyone knows he wont make it through, thats the problem and why hes been in the ahl this year. wings need to make cap room in order to keep him up
**Shows how much the NHL cares about the Wings this year. If it were someone like Steen scoring less than 20 seconds into the game, it'd be a front page showcase. Instead, no front page video, no three stars for the Goose. Regardless, this proves that our team is about a player or two shy of being a contending team. Go Wings!!
**Wanted to buy out Sammy in the off season, but his pectoral muscle magically inflamed in time to exempt him from the buy out period. Then we signed Cleary just before the start of the season. Those two, who I'll give their due were once key pieces to the Wings' success, have proven to be boat anchors this season and have kept young talent trapped in the AHL - starting with Nyquist.
